History

Rinchen Higher Secondary School was built in 2001 as the second private higher secondary school in Bhutan and commenced functioning as a centre for pre-university education in January 2002. It has earned the reputation of being a fine academic institution that focuses on the all-round development of its students.

On 22nd February, Rinchen High School opened its doors to its pioneer batch of students. These students came mainly from the middle and higher Secondary schools from all over Bhutan.

With the organization set-up accomplished, Rinchen began the task of cultivating her own ethos. This began with the choice of the school’s name by the Board of Pioneers. “Rinchen”, which means ‘the precious one’, was the name of Rinchen Tshering, late father of Aum Sangay Zam, the owner of the school. The school was named after him in the hope of preserving the spirit of the man who is fondly remembered as a visionary person. In addition, the name was chosen to honour the father whose resilience, fortitude and courage had seen Bhutan through its early days. It was thus hoped that students would be inspired by the pioneering spirit of Rinchen.

In its 10 year history, under the dynamic leadership of its 4 principals, together with a capable and enthusiastic staff fraternity, the school has grown in strength as a reputable institution of learning excellence; flourishing in the arts, music, sports, community outreach, innovation, creativity and leadership development. The purposeful pursuit of excellence culminated in the attainment of its success, though the pinnacle of achievement is still its top priority. This achievement will then be the testimony to the enterprising spirit of Rinchenians and the commitment and dedication of staff members, past and present, along with the dynamic programmes that have been initiated for students to realize their potential.

As the college strives to groom and nurture the thinkers, leaders and trailblazers of tomorrow, it can take comfort and pride that the many who have walked through its gates yesterday are now the men and women of today, leading and making their mark in society, contributing in diverse fields and making a difference. It is an institution that not only celebrates its rich and illustrious past, but also has the vision to reinvent itself to continue to provide quality learning experiences for the Rinchenians.

The school has been under the leadership of the following dynamic Principals:

  • Ms. Tshewang Choden (2002-2006)
  • Mrs. Kuenzang Choden (2007-2008)
  • Mr. Sonam Palden (2009)
  • Mr. Tshering Dorji (2010 – Present)
